More Graduation!

Around the same time as Alex’s graduation my Dad was in the hospital for a leg infection so I didn’t really have a chance to do big celebration for Alex  SOOO about 2 weeks later I had a big surprise BBQ with a few friends!  Emmy was so excited to surprise Daddy!!  The only part that was hard was NOT telling Daddy!  It was kind of funny because there were several funny things she did that made me laugh a lot!  First of all she overheard me talking to one of Alex’s friends about having Alex help him move to get him out of the house while I got ready for the party.  So like 3 days before the party Emmy told Alex “Go help Bill move!”  which we all laughed about!  And it all seemed like a random comment until Bill called Alex and really was moving so then Alex was like “How did Emmy know about the move?”

The next two funny things were the cake and ice cream.  Ray came over the night before and Emmy kept asking Ray if he wanted some ice cream.  She had seen me buy the big tub of it for the party and wanted to share.  But I didn’t want Alex to know we had ice cream or he’d know something was up.  So I kept telling Emmy we didn’t have any when she’d bring it up and she seemed so sad that I wasn’t telling the truth.  Finally I got a chance to talk to her alone  and I reminded her it was a surprise!  Then she came back in smiling and was like “We don’t have any ice cream daddy becuase it’s a surprise”.  Then the next day I made the cake while Alex was gone.  But he got home early so I had to quickly move the cakes into the laundry room so he wouldn’t see them.  Emmy who had been in the kitchen with me when Alex got home ran out and told Alex to come see the cakes…but by the time she came back around the corner with dad in tow…there was no sign of cakes.  Emmy’s face was so hilarious becuase she was so confused!  Anyway, Alex found the cakes anyway and knew something was up!  Oh well!  Anyway, above  is his 2009 Graduate Cake!

It was a kind of cold and drizzly day so a lot of us ended up inside to eat!

Here is the yummy food!  We made hot dogs, hamburgers, and potato salad and everyone else brought a side!  It was great!

So the one surprise Emmy and I actually managed to keep was that I bought a bunch of fancy bottled sodas!  These were a tribute to Alex’s BYU graduation. Being the poor college students we were while at BYU bottled sodas were quite the splurge!  They still are…but they were so worth it!

Here are our guests who were tough enough to eat outside despite the miserable weather!  You guys rock!

Alex and Ray enjoying their rootbeers!  Cheers!

I think I mentioned in the last post how much Emmy loves cake!!

All the excitement put Kaylee to sleep!  What a sweetie!

“All our guests are gone and there is nothing left ot do but clean up! Sigh” (PS…This picture is not staged at all!)

Graduation Day!!

So about a month ago our very own Alex Baker GRADUATED!!  And despite the lateness of my blog post we are super super excited!  Life without homework has been awesome for our family and we are really enjoying it!  We decided to go down for the graduation festivities in Albuquerque so that Alex could wear his super cool masters robe and hood.  Plus Albuquerque has much better places to celebrate (such as Gardunos). Thanks Max and Kath!

UNM reads all the graduates names at both their commencement and convocation ceremonies so we got to hear daddy’s name read at both.  This first picture was taken at the commencement ceremonies in the morning!  It was a very New Mexican ceremony complete with mariachi band.

The first graduation was in the rodeo grounds and it was a really windy day so the sand in the face parking lot kind of aggravated the girls (not to mention their mom!) BUT, The second ceremony was a lot smaller and in a much cooler and less crowded building which was nice for the girls!  Here is pic of Grandpa entertaining a very restless Emmy!

Just by luck we sat right accross the aisle from Alex so we got to take some fun shots!  Here is Alex with the rest of his Computer Science Master Student friends!  What a good looking college boy he is!

Here is the first picture of Alex after he officially graduated!  Does he look different?

Alex and his cheerleaders!  (Emmy by this point knows that there is cake in the lobby so she is eager to go!) 🙂

Alex, Emmy and Grandpa!

And finally a picture of his graduation hood!  Becuase I think it looks cool!

People, parks, and polka-dot pants

I got these little outfits for the girls at Kohl’s!  Where else!  Anyway, the whole Relief Society presidency was released so we were going to lunch with the rest of the presidency.  (So quick update…yes I was released a few weeks ago as Enrichment counselor and now I’m assistant ward camp leader and the Young Women’s Secretary!  Both of which I’m super super excited about!!) Anyway, Emmy was really excited to go to lunch with “May Anne” (Marianne Tonks) so she didn’t really want to sit for pictures! But here are the few shots I got!

Kaylee working on some crawling!! She is getting really close! She is already army crawling with a lot of speed!

The one shot I managed to get of both the girls in their little polka dot pants!

“Naturally Sweet”- very appropriate shirt!

“Free as a bird”- Pretty much sums up Emmy!

Later that day I decided to take the girls to the park to try out my new double stroller!  Ta-Da! I got this at the Little Forest Resale for 30 bucks!! It’s a “Euro-Graco” which I’ve never heard of…but I think it makes me more cultured or something!  Anyway, I really love it and although it might not be as fancy as some other double strollers it gets the job done! And for you Seinfeld fans out there “It’s European!!!”

Here’s miss Kaylee in her comfy seat!  She loved looking forward for a change!

And Emmy thinks the double stoller is the greatest thing ever!  She loves riding around with Kaylee!

It was really bright at Urban park!  Here is Emmy in the swings trying her best to smile and look at the camera!

After Urban we walked over to Mountain School.  This was our first time going and Emmy loved it!!! This playground was just her size and she could do it “all by herself” which she made sure to tell me if I walked to close to her while she was doing it! 🙂 She is going to do the early start pre-school program through Barranca but if we still live here in two years Emmy will go to Kindergarten at Mountain!

I think this pick is funny because she is wearing her Free as a bird shirt but she looks like a jail bird!

Poor Emmy…always in my shadow!  Just kidding!  She leaves me and Alex in the dust on a regular basis!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!

We stayed at mountain so long it was time for Daddy to come home so we told him to meet us at the park! Here is Emmy showing dad around the playground!

And finally Kaylee gets her turn to join the fun!  She loves riding down slides just like Emmy!  They are both pretty fearless so it will be interesting when I have to chase them BOTH around the playground in opposite directions!  Maybe then I will finally shed those extra pregnancy lbs!!

Easter

So I am totally behind on my blog.  I have about a million posts to do!  So I’m going to just go through the pictures in order!!  So first up is Easter!  We had a pretty low key easter which was nice.  However, it also snowed that weekend, which wasn’t so nice!  But the girls had lots of cute outfits to dress up in and they looked super cute at church!  So although there are no happy daffodils in our pictures you can still tell it is spring by the way the girls look!

Emmy was old enough to dye her own eggs this year!  For some reason she wanted most of them to be green so Alex and I made a few to use the other colors!

Three amigos!

And I was there too…see…

Kaylee thought Emmy coloring eggs was hilarious!  Kaylee thinks everything Emmy does is hilarious!

Kaylee was just working on holding her head up and rolling over at the point!  She rolled over on March 17th which was exactly 3 months after she was born!  She’s showing off her muscles in the pic!

Kaylee pretending she is the same age as Emmy!

Emmy pretending she is the same age as Kaylee!

Emmy loves piggy back rides!

So I couldn’t decide which picture of the piggy back ride to include so I’m putting in both!  This one shows off Emmy’s and Daddy’s blue eyes!

We had the Grandpa’s and Uncle Ray over for Easter dinner!  I couldn’t find a small enough ham so we did a pork roast instead.  Still very yummy! Here is Emmy and Grandpa Baker!  Showing off her candy!

Emmy and Grandpa Layman!  This time she is showing off the candy in her mouth!

Here’s Kaylee’s little easter bunny outfit…

complete with fluffy tail…

and little bunny slippers!!

In this picture I was trying  to capture the craziness that Easter candy can induce!  Notice the wide eyes and the slight trace of chocolate on the corners of her mouth!!  🙂

Happy Easter!!

From the mouth of babes…

So today we went to the children’s museum and we had a lot of fun!  But unlike on Reading Rainbow you ARE going to have to take my word for it because I forgot my CAMERA!! Anyway, without the pictures it’s pretty much just words…blah blah blah!  So, I will quickly tell you what we did and follow it up with some funny stories…so hang in there…

1) We went to Kohl’s (how unlike me) with Kath and I actually got to try a few things on since she played with the girls! Thanks Kath! 2) A quick trip to Trader Joe’s to buy some delicious apple bars, potato gnocchi, and ginger cats.  It had been awhile since I’d been there and Emmy’s snack cupboard was pretty bare.  3)We walked around UNM campus and bought Alex’s graduation robes!  Good thing he’s getting his master’s so he can wear black robes instead of bright Lobo red. 4) Children’s museum- totally awesome!  Giant blocks, musical instruments, a pool full of bubbles!  Toddler heaven!  She loved it! We were there for 2.5 hours and she still couldn’t get enough!

Anyway, thanks for reading the random things we did today…now as promised some funny stories.

So the other day Emmy was eating dinner and all the sudden she started counting in spanish.  She counted from 1 to 5. She’d never done that before and we were pretty impressed so we asked who taught her that.  (I was pretty sure it was from Dora).  She sat there and thought for a couple seconds then she got really exctied and said “Jesus”.  Looks like her primary teachers are doing their job!

Then, a couple days later we were sitting at the table again and this time she started singing a song she made up.  It went like this “Daddy looks like mommy, mommy looks like Kaylee, Kaylee looks like Papa, Papa looks like Aunt Beth, and so on using every person she knows (literally).  Until finally someone looked like Emmy.  Then she stopped and said “Emmy looks like a diamond ring!”  Which I thought was random…so I asked her where she got that idea from.  Then she yells at the top of her lungs “FROM CHINA!”   What a smart alek!  Seriously, who does she think she is, Michelle Tanner!

Kaylee’s Blessing!

Kaylee Maria Baker was blessed March 29th, 2009 in Los Alamos New Mexico by her dad!  It was a great day!  My mom and Christian were down for spring break and Beth and her family drove down for the weekend.  So Kaylee had both sets of Grandparents, all of her cousins, and most of her aunts and uncles here.  Alex blessed her and one of the ladies in our ward who writes short hand copied it down for us (what a nice gift!).  The circle also included Max (Grandpa), Nathan (uncle), Keith Morgan (friend), and Josh Miller (friend) and Bishop Betts (bishop).   After church we had a family lunch and celebrated!

Kaylee is already 3 months old so I was a little worried the dress would be too small…but it fit great and she looked adorable!  Look at her big blue eyes!

undefined

These booties are gorgeous but Kaylee only keeps socks on for about 2 minutes.  Luckily Beth got a picture before Kaylee kicked them off!

undefined

Logan saying good morning to Kaylee before church!  Kaylee got tons of compliments on her bonnet.

undefined

Here’s Kaylee and her Daddy all ready for their big day!  This dress is the same dress that Emmy and I were blessed in.  It’s on loan from my mother.  So far all of her grandchildren have been blessed in it (Emmy and Kaylee) 🙂

undefined

Emmy wasn’t really in a picture taking mood but we managed to wrangle her into a few of them anyway.  Here we are after church!

undefined

Kaylee and her proud parents.

The whole gang

undefined

Kaylee kept sticking her hand on Emmy’s face when we were trying to get a picture of the two of them.  Emmy and Kaylee both thought this was hilarious!  Kaylee was even giggling!

Kaylee with Grandma and Grandpa Layman!

Naps all around!

In the words of Emmy, “UNCLE WAY!!!!!”

Kaylee smiling with her Aunt Beth!

Uncle Christian wearing his Gonzaga Bulldogs shirt and holding his newest niece!

undefined

All the cousins!  It took 4 adults to get this shot together but it worked!  I was very impressed and it turned out really cute!  Emmy loves to hold Kaylee’s hand in all the pictures.

undefined

“oooh cake…”

undefined

“Just a little closer…”   SUPER BABY!

undefined

So for those of you into decorating cakes…here is a pic of Kaylee’s cake.  Alex bought me a cake decorating kit for Christmas and I finally got to try it out!  The booties are made out of 3 marshmallows.  Two standing up for the heels and one cut in half and laying down for the toes.  Then I just piped lines of frosting on them to make it look like crocheted booties.  I liked the design because Kaylee’s Grandma Baker knits all kinds of things for her family and friends!

Emmy makes a pretty cute biker chick! Logan, Ray and Emmy- born to be wild!!

Don’t I have a cute husband??  Thanks for giving Kaylee such a nice blessing and happy day!
